Wow Day!

On Friday 20th April, we had our wow day. Our theme this term is Bristol, so we dressed up as pirates and sailors. Our main focus for the day was exploring the life of Blackbeard who was a pirate who was born in Bristol. We made pirate hats, wrote wanted posters and we also created some biscuits which pirates would have eaten. The biscuits didn't contain any sugar but we all still liked them very much!

The Magic Porridge Pot

In literacy, we are learning the story, the Magic Porridge Pot. In the story the little girl goes on the hunt for food and she finds blackberries. Then she meets a lady who is also hungry so she shares her blackberries. In return the lady gives the little girl a pot which makes porridge whenever she needs it. To help us with our learning of this story we made and tried some porridge as well as trying some blackberries.

We needed to measure out our ingredients carefully which included pouring out the milk.

We needed to stir the porridge on the hob and make sure that it didn't stick to the pan!

Finally we were able to taste our porridge! It was very lovely!

Cricket

On Monday 16th April, Y3 had a fantastic morning with All Stars cricket coach John. We played a warm up game where we needed to avoid being touched with the ball. We were all very tired afterwards.

We then needed to practise our throwing and catching skills. To do this, we needed to catch the ball in a cone. Some of us were very successful! We also had to be in pairs and we had a competition to grab the ball first.

We then began to learn the rules of cricket. We had to listen very carefully to John. We learnt how to bat and field. We also learnt the positions of different players and the many ways in which we can get out. Finally, we learn how to score runs.

Plant instructions

Within our literacy lessons we have been learning about and writing our own instructions based around growing seeds and seedlings. To help us with our literacy learning we followed the instructions to plant our own sunflower seeds. We learnt how we needed to keep them somewhere warm and make sure they had plenty of water to drink.

We are very impressed with our sunflowers! Some of them have grown to incredible heights, whilst others have just begun growing.
